Two of the most popular skin rejuvenation treatments we perform at Koch & Carlisle Plastic Surgery & Spa are HALO laser skin resurfacing and Broadband Light (BBL) procedures. Because the procedures address different types of skin concerns, patients often ask us if they can get HALO and BBL treatments at the same time.

Our providers often very effectively use combination therapies—sometimes described as layering treatments—to get optimal results without patients having to schedule multiple appointments. There are several reasons that this is true generally, and specifically when we combine HALO with BBL.

Different Technologies

Even though BBL is often referred to as a laser, it actually delivers pulses of broad-spectrum light energy to heat the skin’s deeper layers. This heating stimulates damaged cells to produce new collagen, which is essential to healthy, youthful-looking skin. BBL is the most advanced type of intense pulsed light (IPL) available today.

HALO is the first hybrid fractional laser, meaning it combines the aggressiveness of powerful laser skin resurfacing treatments with the minimal downtime associated with gentler devices. HALO’s advanced laser technology system constantly monitors the skin’s temperature and the energy being delivered to ensure your safety.

Benefits of Combining HALO and BBL

When we combine the treatments, we perform the BBL procedure first, followed by HALO. Here’s a quick look at the benefits of combining these 2 popular treatments:

  • Treat multiple concerns at the same time: Combining the 2 treatments improves the skin’s texture and tone. HALO minimizes fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, scars, and other signs of aging. BBL reduces skin discoloration, redness, and small facial veins and is cleared by the FDA specifically for treating pigmented lesions, vascular lesions, and acne.
  • Limit recovery time: Both of these treatments performed separately require minimal downtime, but you still need to plan for a couple of recovery days. By combining the treatments, your recovery is essentially reduced by half.
  • Save money: Patients often take advantage of specials offered at our practice that reduce the cost of getting HALO and BBL treatments.
  • Customized treatments: Our providers tailor combination therapies after discussing the specific concerns and aesthetic goals with each patient.
