Whether you’ve experienced a complication or your breast implants are simply no longer in line with your aesthetic goals, you have an experienced breast implant removal specialist on your side who is ready to help. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Carlisle performs breast implant removal (explant surgery) and capsulectomy for women from West Des Moines, Ankeny, Ames, Davenport, and beyond who no longer want their breast implants.

How Is Breast Implant Removal Performed?

There are a couple of variations of breast implant removal that Dr. Carlisle performs:

  • Breast implant removal: This removes the breast implant while leaving the surrounding scar capsule in place.
  • Capsulectomy: This technique removes or releases the scar capsule surrounding the breast implant.

In many cases, women opt for breast implant removal with a capsulectomy. This removes both the breast implant and the scar capsule, but not necessarily in one piece. An en bloc capsulectomy removes the breast implant and the scar capsule as a single unit.

Should I Remove My Breast Implants?

The choice to remove your breast implants after breast augmentation is a personal one. Common reasons women choose to remove their implants include:

  • Capsular contracture or other complications
  • Implant rupture
  • Discomfort
  • Changing aesthetic preferences

Dr. Carlisle will discuss your concerns with you during a private consultation and recommend the most helpful treatment options for your unique needs.

What Will My Breasts Look Like After Breast Implant Removal?

In most cases, Dr. Carlisle can remove your breast implants through the original incision created for your breast augmentation. If you have poor skin elasticity or have had large implants in place for a long time, you may experience some degree of sagging, which is why breast lift is commonly combined with implant removal.

How Much Does Breast Implant Removal Cost?

The price of breast implant removal at our West Des Moines plastic surgery practice starts at $3,500 and varies from person to person, depending on the complexity of the procedure. We will provide you with a personalized estimate at the time of your consultation.
